  Sidi Bou said

» This old village owes its name to the Muslim Saint Abou Saïd Khalafa ben Yahia; He settled there in 1207 to develop Sufism. After his death he was considered as a Saint and the hill of Sidi Bou Said became a place of spirituality.
Sidi Bou Said was a quiet place for fishers, it owes its international fame to the English Baron Rodolphe d'Erlanger who settled there in 1912 and built a sumptuous palace.
The English Baron Rodolphe d'Erlanger was fond of music: he invited artists from everywhere and organized meetings that combined art, music and literature. He died in 1932 and his heirs handed down his heritage to Tunisia
Currently the palace, renamed Ennejma Ezzahra, became the Center for Arab and Mediterranean Music. It is open to the public who can admire the magnificent museum of musical instruments, its architecture and gardens.
Today Sidi Bou Said has become the meeting place for artists, the young bourgeoisie and foreigners in search for exotism, several art galleries were installed there ... But it is extremely marvelous with its architecture, restored ancient white and blue painted palaces, the heaven- offered atmosphere. You'll love the famous cafe Mats, from where you can have a look at the main street of the village.
